Hey Ya'll my name is Krystal, stick around and get to know me and find out why I call myself Southern N Salty. I've loved being a Salon Owner/Stylist for over 14 years but have always felt like a part of me was missing....
"Your life does not get better by chance, It gets better by change and stepping out of your comfort zone."
With this in mind Southern N Salty was founded on the hope of sharing my love of the salty life with a mix of my southern roots and charm.
I'm in love with cities I've never been to, people I haven't met and fish I've never caught. Follow along on my salty adventures as I chase sunsets all over the world.

About Me
Yep, that's me! I was 6 years old steering my papaws aluminum fishing boat down the Chassahowitzka river. It's one of the most scenic rivers in Florida covered in saltmarsh and coastal swamps. I have so many great memories growing up. I was born in Maysville, Kentucky located along the Ohio river which is home to Daniel Boone and Rosemary Clooney (pretty cool huh). Kentucky is known for it's horses ,bourbon, basketball and southern hospitality. I can honestly say there aren't many places like it. Clearly this is where my love of the open water began.
A few years later my family headed South permanently. I lived in a small town in Crystal River, Fl where words like "FIXIN", thingamajigger, and doohickey were the norm. I guess you can say it was a southern thing ya'll!
From there we moved to Sarasota, FL where I was engulfed in the boating industry. My family owned and operated Pro-Line Boats and Donzi Marine, so spending weekends on the river and the gulf became second nature. This explains why I am definitely happiest when I am on the water!

SNOOK
Sarasota Bay
Here I am slaying one of Florida's Premier fish known as the Snook. These aggressive fish are fun to hook and cook when in season. Snook season runs May 1st -Aug 31st keepers are 28-32 inches in length w/tail squeezed. Don't forget one snook per angler on the boat, or one snook may be kept per person, per day. Anglers may continue to catch and release snook during off season.
GROUPER
Gulf of Mexico
Fishing for Grouper off the Florida coast is always a day of fun! The Gulf covers most of Florida's west coast. Always check with your charter captain or refer to FWC regulations to make sure you're staying in compliance.
PERMIT
Sanibel Florida
My first Permit!! Caught this guy off the shores of Sanibel Island.This fish looks a lot like a Florida Pompano and can be found offshore amongst wrecks and artificial reefs.
BARRACUDA
Bokeelia Florida
This Barracuda was a thrill to catch for sure! Known for its fearsome and ferocious behavior. Just check out the teeth on this bad boy. They have two rows of long fang-like teeth, can weigh up to 110 pounds and can swim over 25mph in short bursts! However I wouldn't recommend eating Barracuda because they can accumulate a naturally occurring toxin. YUK!

THE ROAD TO HANA. MAUI IS 64 MILES LONG WITH ENDLESS WATER FALLS AND AMAZING SCENIC VIEWS. THIS WAS MY FAVORITE TRIP WITH MY MOTHER. THE VIEWS WERE BREATHTAKING!

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL SPOT ON THE EASTERN EDGE OF THE NORTHERN TIP OF THE ISLAND OF MAUI. THIS POINT IS KNOWN FOR ITS BLOWHOLE AND HAS BECOME NOTABLE FOR ITS DANGEROUS CONDITIONS WHEN WAVES COME CRASHING IN!

Staying active daily with different fitness routines is important to keep you motivated. After all our bodies are a temple!
I regularly update my blog and I hope to encourage others when you're about to give up! Remember you must do the things you think you cannot do! It's your mind that you have to convince that It's not always easy but the results are worth it.
